I used to call this type of cactus a trichocereus, but I was looking in a cactus
reference book [The Complete Book of Cacti and Succulents - Terry Hewitt] and found that
the category had been changed to echinopsis. For example T. bruchii is now Echinopsis bruchii, etc. The giant variety shown in the photographs below is from South America. Some of these are hybrids of Trichocereus and Echinopsis and are now called Trichopsis. See also The Amatuers' Digest. For recent taxonomy changes, see:Wikipedia. |
